1967 250 SGS Restoration Progress

Crank problems. Engine sat with cylinder removed for several years.

Majority of the wiring is done. Headlight, break light, and tail light tested. Coils installed and wired up.

Looks like you're going to have a very nice bike. Aren't clean shiney parts fun?

I got the spokes and rims from Wieser Puch. The quality of the spokes is good but I was unimpressed with the chrome on there rims. The set I built up for my 69 started corroding in less than a year. The wheel pictured is laced with spokes from Wieser and a rim from Motor West. Hopefully the chrome will hold up.

I usually find wiesers stuff is much worse quality than RBO, but even some of RBO's stuff is questionable.

How do you get the cases so clean? Steam?

Solvent tank then bead blaster and solvent tank again to removed blasting media.

I got the engine built up!

Cases cleaned and ready for new main beings.

Heated engine case halfs in oven(150-200F) and chilled bearing in the freezer. New bearing dropped right in.

Left main baring has to be pressed on to the crank after it is installed in the case half.

The infamous left crank seal installed.

Oil pump and outer left bearing installed. Be sure to check the lash on the oil pump gear. I found when i first installed the pump it caused the crank to bind. I loosened the pump bolts and moved it out until the crank turned smoothly.
